The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), through its Internal Audit Directorate, hosted the inauguration of the MAYDIS District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), during which executives were elected to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The colourful ceremony, held at the Auditorium, Multipurpose Building, brought together Chartered Accountants from the Manya, Yilo, Asuogyaman, Akuse, and Akosombo districts, including professionals from UESD’s Finance and Audit Directorates, representatives of ICAG, sister district societies, and other distinguished guests.
The newly established MAYDIS District Society is expected to serve as a vibrant professional hub dedicated to promoting excellence in accounting practice through networking, Continuous Professional Development (CPD), mentorship, ethical leadership, and community service. Welcoming participants to the University, the Registrar of UESD, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong, described the inauguration as a historic occasion and congratulated members on their vision and commitment in establishing the district society. She noted that Chartered Accountants play a critical role in society by influencing financial stewardship, corporate governance, transparency, and accountability across both public and private institutions.“Chartered Accountants are not only financial professionals but also custodians of integrity and guardians of public trust,” she stated.

Mrs. Agyepong further observed that the profession’s emphasis on honesty and integrity aligns closely with UESD’s core values and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to building strategic partnerships with professional bodies such as MAYDIS. She highlighted opportunities for collaboration in mentorship, research, internships, professional programme development, and community outreach initiatives.
