A delegation from the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA), the professional and regulatory body for architects in Ghana, has paid a working visit to the Department of Built Environment of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, in the Eastern Region.

The visit, led by the President of the Institute, Arc. Tony Asare, formed part of the Institute’s regulatory mandate to assess and support architecture training programmes in tertiary institutions. During the visit, the delegation met with members of the Department at the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s Office to discuss the architecture programme and its alignment with professional standards.
The delegation also interacted with Level 100 and Level 200 students pursuing a BSc in Architecture and Sustainable Design. Addressing the students, Arc. Asare encouraged them to take advantage of the resources available to them and remain committed to their academic and professional development.

He explained that the purpose of the visit was not only to assess the programme but also to ensure that students receive holistic training that will prepare them to become competent professionals. He said, the Institute would support students by providing internship opportunities to enhance their professional exposure and development.
Arc. Asare further advised the students to remain dedicated to their studies, noting that architecture is a demanding programme that requires passion, commitment, and hard work to succeed.

The Head of the Department of Built Environment, Dr. Dominic Buer Boyetey, expressed appreciation to the GIA delegation for the visit. He reassured the students that the training they are receiving at UESD is designed to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to become competent professionals. He also encouraged them to remain focused and committed to their academic journey.
