UESD Concludes 2026/2027 Orientation with Focus on Academic Excellence, University Regulations

The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region, has concluded its orientation programme for freshmen and women for the 2026/2027 academic year, equipping newly admitted students with essential information on the University’s academic policies, administrative structures, financial procedures, security arrangements, and student support services.

The final day of the programme featured presentations from key University officials and directorates to help students understand the systems, regulations and responsibilities that will shape their academic journey and campus life. The Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong, provided an overview of the University’s administrative framework, governance structures and institutional values, emphasising their role in supporting effective teaching, learning and student development.

She described orientation as a compass that guides students in navigating the university environment, understanding their responsibilities and making informed decisions throughout their academic journey. She noted that orientation laid a solid foundation for students’ academic and personal growth.

Mrs. Agyepong highlighted the University’s mission, vision, aims and core values, encapsulated in the acronym HOPE, and outlined its governance and administrative structures, including the Governing Council, Academic Board, Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and the various administrative sections and units.

She also drew attention to key student regulations and the support systems available to promote a productive university experience. She urged the students to familiarise themselves with the University’s rules and procedures, take responsibility for their conduct and make effective use of the opportunities and resources available to achieve their academic and personal goals.

The University’s academic policies and requirements were presented by Dr. Andrews Kofi Taayeli of the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Division. His presentation outlined the policies governing students’ academic work and stressed the importance of discipline, compliance with academic regulations, and a commitment to excellence.

Other presentations covered financial procedures, physical development and estate management, and campus security. The sessions provided students with information on financial responsibilities, the University’s physical facilities and estate management arrangements, as well as security measures and the need for personal responsibility in maintaining a safe campus environment.
