The programme is targeting a number of prospective applicants from various secondary educational levels and post-secondary cohorts with non-degree certificates who meets the admission requirements. Mature students who have basic reading and writing skills, have environmental related experiences. The programme is opened to Ghanaians and foreign nationals who have interest in the programme. The admission requirements for various cohorts are as follow:
SSSCE
Passes in core English, core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies and any three elective subjects which should include at least one of the following: Economics; Geography; Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry, and Physics with aggregate score of 24 or better.
WASSCE Applicants
At least a credit in core English, core Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies and any three elective subjects which should include at least one of the following: Economics; Geography; Mathematics; Biology; Chemistry and Physics with an aggregate score of 36 or better.
A LEVEL Certificate Applicants
Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Besides, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics and a science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject (for science students). A pass in General Paper must also be obtained.
General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Holders
Applicants must obtain passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Core Mathematics plus any three elective subjects would be eligible for admission into level 100.
Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Holders
Applicants with full Diploma in ABCE must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including; English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination, SSSCE or WASSCE. Applicants may be considered for admission at Level 200 of a degree programme.
HND/Diploma Applicants
HND holders (Second Class) with relevant background may be admitted in Third Year of the Programme after passing an interview, while HND First Class may be considered for admission without an interview. Two year Diploma holders (Second Class) from accredited tertiary institutions may be admitted into second year while three years Diploma with distinction may be admitted into third year of the Programme without interview.
Mature Applicants
Mature Applicants must have attained the age of 25years or above with passes in SSSCE/WASSCE/O’Level Mathematics and English and/or relevant working experience, and must also pass a written examination and interview conducted by the School.
Foreign Students
Foreign students may be admitted on the basis of qualification from their home country for which the National Accreditation Board shall determine equivalence. Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
The graduates of the programme are well placed to work in a diverse range of energy-related areas in both public and private sectors, as well as engage in self-employing avenues. They can be employed in the following energy-related areas: Energy supply and management, Energy technology providers, Consulting (including management, financing and engineering practices), General and specialist contracting, offering multi-disciplinary or specific commercial/industrial services, Governmental and Public authorities, Facilities Management, Energy advice and training bodies, Manufacturing companies, Education. Specifically, Energy Sustainability graduates can work with institutions like: Ministry of Energy, Ghana Energy Commission, National Petroleum Authority, Electricity Company of Ghana, The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, Petroleum Commission, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta River Authority, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Academia (e.g. Universities, polytechnics), International Organisations (such as the International Energy Agency, United Nations, World Bank) , Research Institutions etc.
