Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Supports UESD with State-of-the-Art ICT Facility

A ceremony has been held at the Auditorium of the Multi-Purpose Building of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) to inaugurate an ultra-modern N-Computer Laboratory, installed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to enhance teaching and learning. The event was attended by members of the University community and an eleven-member delegation from the Church.

The N-Computer Laboratory, located at LT 9 on the 3rd floor of the main lecture block, houses sixty (60) N-Computers known for their high energy efficiency, is equipped with a smart board, two servers, and a high-functioning interactive screen. The interactive screen is designed to aid in projections, serve as a monitor, function as a writing board, and perform other essential tasks.

An Elder of the Church and leader of the eleven-member delegation, Elder Samuel Annan Simons, stated that the Church views it as a mission to contribute to the growth and well-being of all individuals, as this is one way of fulfilling God’s work on earth.

He explained that in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, it is a longstanding tradition for members to fast on the first Sunday of each month, skipping two consecutive meals, and generously donate a fast offering equivalent to the cost of those meals. He, therefore, encouraged students to see this contribution as a testament to the Church’s belief in their potential.

Elder Simons expressed gratitude to Management of UESD for dedication to shaping students’ minds and for its commitment to environmental sustainability through various University-led programmes.

The Director of the Directorate of Information Technology and Services (DITSO), Dr. Emmanuel Kitcher, highlighted that the energy-saving capability of the N-Computers aligns with the University’s mission to promote environmental sustainability through green energy initiatives. He also hinted at plans to expand the laboratory’s capacity to accommodate eighty-five (85) students at a time.

The Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong, described the facility as “a laboratory for the future and a nexus for future opportunities.” She expressed optimism that the N-Computer Laboratory would empower both students and lecturers, fostering a holistic teaching and learning experience that would distinguish UESD from other institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson conveyed profound gratitude to the Church for its timely response to the University’s request. He noted that this was the largest single donation received since the University’s inception five years ago. He also acknowledged the efforts of key individuals whose contributions were instrumental in realising the project, including Mrs. Rose Nandara Faanu, Head of the Human Resource Division of the University; Mr. Stephen Amakye, a Level 400 Environmental Management student, Mrs. Evelyn Forson Ahiable; and Mr. Ezra Otoo, Area Communications Officer and Humanitarian Specialist of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
