UESD Set for 5th Anniversary Launch on August 5 with Yearlong Celebrations and Youth Empowerment Drive

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, has announced that the institution is poised for its 5th Anniversary celebration on the 5th of August.

He made this known during a courtesy call on the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, at her office in Koforidua Accompanied by members of the University’s management and the Chairman of the 5th Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. Nyarko-Sampson explained that the visit was to formally invite her to the official launch of the celebration, scheduled for 5th August at the Auditorium, Multipurpose Building.

The Vice-Chancellor outlined a series of activities planned to commemorate the milestone, running from the launch on 5th August to a grand climax in December. These include a float through the principal streets of Somanya, public lectures, a congregation ceremony, an awards night, and other engagements designed to reflect the University’s growth and impact over the past five years.

He further disclosed that the anniversary celebrations are being organised in collaboration with the Dwumfuor Foundation, with invitations extended to stakeholders in Corporate Ghana to participate and support the events.

 

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson also briefed the Minister on the Nkabom Food Collaborative, a transformative initiative aimed at creating dignified jobs for three million youth across Ghana. The project, he said, focuses on agro-processing, aquaculture, and entrepreneurship. In addition, it includes a structured academic component, offering training at the certificate, degree, and PhD levels. Special attention is being given to engaging communities within the Eastern Region.

In her response, Hon. Awatey expressed delight at UESD’s progress and its remarkable achievements within five years of its establishment. She congratulated the University on the reconstitution of its Governing Council and noted her confidence in the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Seth Terkper, describing him as an efficient and experienced leader.

“UESD is our baby,” the Minister said, adding that she is hopeful that the University will continue to attract broad-based support to help it fulfill its mandate as a centre of excellence in environmental and sustainable development studies.
