The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region has been honoured with the West Africa Green Economy Academic Excellence Award at the maiden West Africa Green Economy Roundtable and Awards (WAGER 2025). WAGER is an initiative dedicated to advancing sustainable development through green growth in the sub-region.
The event, held in Accra, was anchored on the theme “Advancing Sustainable Development through Green Growth in West Africa.” UESD was recognized for its pioneering contributions in sustainability-focused research, training, and education. Remarkably, UESD stood out as the only academic institution among the five awardees.
A four-member delegation led by Dr. Richard Amfo-Otu, Acting Head of the Academic Planning and Quality Assurance Unit (APQA) received the award on behalf of the University.
Upon their return, Dr. Amfo-Otu presented the award to Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, at his office in the company of the Registrar, Mrs Mary Abena Agyepong. Prof. Nyarko-Sampson commended the delegation for effectively representing UESD at the maiden WAGER 2025, and expressed his delight that the University stood out as the only academic institution to be honoured at the event. He further expressed hope that UESD would continue to achieve similar feats in the future.
