UESD Commissions Modern Computer Laboratory and MOOC Studio under ImPreSSion – To Aid Online Teaching and Learning

ImPreSSion (Improving Study Programmes in Ghana by Introducing Green Solutions, Sustainability Modules, and Digital Transformation), a transformative educational initiative aimed at enhancing university programmes in Ghana, has handed over a modern Computer Laboratory and a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) studio to the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanaya, Eastern Region. The gesture was made under the ImPreSSion project, which seeks to strengthen higher education through sustainability-focused curricula and digital transformation.

The colourful but brief handing-over ceremony took place on Saturday, 13th December 2025, on the third floor of the Lecture Complex on the University campus. Present were; the Chairman of Council, Hon. Seth Emmanuel Terkper and other Council members; the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah; the Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong; Deans and Directors; members of the UESD ImPreSSion Team; and the Director at the Nkabom Secretariat, Mr.  Pierre Brunache Jr.

The ImPreSSion studio is equipped with a teleprompter, two studio lights, a mixer, a desktop computer, and other accessories designed to support effective online teaching and learning, while the Computer Laboratory is fitted with thirty (30) modern computers.

Expressing his delight at the installation of the Computer Laboratory and MOOC Studio, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko Sampson, commended the ImPreSSion project for the fruitful partnership with the University. He also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the UESD Leadership Inspiration and Mentorship Series (LIMS) team, led by Dr. Michael Tuffuor, Head of the Department of Sustainable Development and Policy Management, in the establishment of the facility. Prof. Nyarko Sampson assured stakeholders that the University would make optimal use of the resources to enhance online teaching and learning.

The Chairman of Council, Hon. Seth Emmanuel Terkper, expressed gratitude to the ImPreSSion project for supporting the University’s efforts to strengthen its online education delivery with a state-of-the-art academic resource.

Responding on behalf of the ImPreSSion team, the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Mrs. Daniella D. Sedegah, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for constituting the UESD team and providing them with the opportunity to serve. She expressed confidence that the Computer Laboratory and MOOC Studio would be put to effective use.

Other members of the ImPreSSion team include are; Dr. Joe Acquah of the Department of Sustainable Development and Policy Management; Dr. Andrew Taayele of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (APQA); and Dr. Christian Larbi-Ayisi of the Department of Water Resources and Aquaculture Management.
