UESD Chapter of GMSA Launched with Inspiring Call to Faith and Sustainability

The University of Environment and Sustainable Development chapter of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) has been launched at a vibrant ceremony held at the Auditorium, Multipurpose Building attended by some senior members of the University, the Chief Imam of Yilo Krobo, and the Eastern Regional GMSA President.

The event featured engaging segments, including a Quran recitation by GMSA Secretary, Miss Abdul Rashid Naimatu. The National President of GMSA, Imam Tamim officially launched the UESD chapter, marking a new chapter for Muslim student leadership and service on the campus.

The guest speaker, Sheikh Abdul Nasirudeen—a renowned philanthropist and educationist—delivered the keynote address. He stressed the Quranic principles of mercy, stewardship, and critical reflection on nature as essential tools for promoting environmental sustainability. “The Quran is a timeless guide for humanity,” he noted, “and by observing and understanding nature, we understand the divine message.”

Highlight of the event was a presentation by Brother Abdul Mumin on the theme “Islam and Environmental Sustainability.” He explored the deep connections between Islamic teachings and the responsibility of Muslims to care for the environment.

The President of the UESD chapter, Mr. Mohammed Lawal, expressed appreciation to members and participants and emphasised the association’s mission to uphold Islamic values within the academic community.

A learned Islamic faithful Mr. Mohammed Rabiu made an appeal for funds to support the activities of the newly formed association.

The launch lays a strong foundation for the GMSA’s future activities at UESD, which aim to combine Islamic values with academic excellence and community engagement.
