UESD Bids Farewell to its First Retiree and Pioneering Staff Member A heartwarming farewell ceremony has been held in honour of Mr. Stephen Kweku Darkey, a Guard Grade I of the Services Division of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region whose nearly five years of dedicated service to the University ended in May 2025.

Mr. Darkey was one of the pioneering staff members of UESD in 2021 and is also the first to retire from the University. The short and eventful ceremony, presided over by the Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong, was held at the Council Chamber of the University. It was attended by senior members of the various units, departments, and divisions and their heads, as well as the Deputy Registrar, Dr. Hammond Oppong Kwateng.
The heads took turns to pay glowing tributes to Mr. Darkey, describing him as an honest, humble, and experienced guard who discharged his duties professionally and with dedication. With more than 20 years of security service experience, including five years at UESD, Mr. Darkey was commended for mentoring younger colleagues during his time at the University.

In her comments, the Registrar, Mrs. Agyepong, commended Mr. Darkey’s outstanding service, particularly highlighting his commitment, dedication, and punctuality, and encouraged staff to emulate these qualities in the discharge of their duties. Mr. Darkey, who has more than 20 years of service in the security sector, expressed appreciation to the Management of UESD for the opportunity to serve and the support he received during his time with the University. The retiree, accompanied by his family, was presented with a citation and a chest freezer.
