A delegation from the 5th Anniversary Planning Committee of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD),Somanya, Eastern Region led by the Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyapong, has paid separate courtesy calls on the Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) of Yilo Krobo and Lower Manya Krobo.
The meeting was to formally them to the 5th anniversary launch of the University.They are; Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey (MCE, Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly) and Hon. John Atteh Matey (MCE, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly).
Mrs. Agyapong congratulated both MCEs on their appointments and conveyed greetings from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson. She also briefed them on UESD’s latest initiative—The Nkabom Food Collaborative Project—which aims to create dignified jobs for three million youth across Ghana.
The project focuses on agro-processing, aquaculture, and entrepreneurship, and includes structured academic training at the certificate, degree, and PhD levels. Special emphasis is being placed on engaging communities within the Krobo municipalities.
The chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Shine Francis Gbedemah, outlined a series of anniversary activities leading up to a grand finale in December. These include a float through the principal streets of Somanya, public lectures, a congregation ceremony, an awards night, and other activities to reflect the University’s impact and growth over the past five years.

Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey congratulated UESD on its 5th anniversary. He expressed admiration for UESD’s progress and stated the institution had brought about a positive change in the youth of Yilo Krobo. He noted that, a “change in mindset and thinking” that is already bearing fruit.

He also discussed ongoing efforts to support the University’s operations in the Municipality and confirmed his participation in the anniversary launch.

Hon. John Atteh Matey also welcomed the delegation to his office and commended the University on its milestone and for providing accessible postgraduate education, which reduces the need for residents to travel long distances. He also spoke positively about the harmonious presence of UESD staff members and students residing in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. He thanked the delegation for the visit and congratulated the University on its milestone.
