Ms. Barbara Mary Yakubu is a Senior Assistant Registrar and the Foundation Head of the University Relations Office at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region. She also serves as the Communications Officer for the UESD Nkabom Collaborative.
She holds a Master of Arts in Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and History from the University of Ghana, Legon, as well as a Diploma in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ now UniMAC). Ms. Yakubu is a Chartered Administrator and a member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana.
As an experienced media and communications professional, Ms. Yakubu plays a strategic role in building, promoting, and safeguarding UESD’s institutional reputation through effective stakeholder engagement and brand positioning. She oversees a dedicated communications team and is driven by a vision to grow the URO into a full Directorate anchored on teamwork and innovation.
Ms. Yakubu has more than two decades of experience in broadcasting and communications. She began her career at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) as an Assistant Editor and rose to become Editor-in-Chief and a member of the Radio Newsroom Management. She has also served as an Assistant Regional Correspondent and consults in journalism, broadcasting, and voice training.
She is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC), and a foundation executive of the UESD Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). Beyond her professional life, she is a committed Catholic, a church lector, and enjoys cooking, scenic travel, and music.
