Dean’s Excellence Scholarship Award
Requirements for Senior High School Applicants with WASSCE certificates
Purpose:
To support high-achieving senior high school graduates with WASSCE certificates who are seeking admission to pursue programmes in the School of Sustainable Development at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Somanya, Eastern Region.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Academic Excellence:
– Must be a Ghanaian by birth
– Must have completed high school with a WASSCE certificate.
– Must have achieved a minimum grade of [A1 to B2] in core subjects including English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
– Must have achieved a minimum grade of [A1 to B2] in elective subjects relevant to any of the Sustainable Development Programmes including but not limited to Government, Geography, Economics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.
2. Admission Status:
– Must have applied for admission to programmes at the School of Sustainable Development at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Somanya, Eastern Region.
– Must have received a provisional or confirmed offer of admission to any of the following programmes in the School of Sustainable Development:
3. Personal Statement:
– Must submit a personal statement (500-700 words) outlining their interest in the Sustainable Development Programmes, their career aspirations, and how the scholarship will help them achieve their goals.
4. Letter of Recommendation:
– Must provide a letter of recommendation from any of the following: teacher, school administrator, or community leader who can attest to the applicant’s academic performance, character, and commitment to sustainable development.
5. Financial Need:
– Must demonstrate financial need by providing relevant financial documents or a statement explaining their financial situation.
Application Process:
1. Application Form:
– Complete the scholarship application form available on the university’s website.
2. Supporting Documents:
– Submit a copy of the WASSCE certificate/results.
– Submit transcripts or academic records from high school.
– Submit a personal statement (not more than one (1) page.
– Submit a letter of recommendation.
– Submit financial need statement.
3. Deadline:
– The deadline for submission of all applications and supporting documents is the same as the deadline for admission to the University.
4. Interview:
– Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview/interaction with the scholarship committee.
Selection Criteria:
Selection is strictly on merit and would be based on the following:
– Academic merit and performance in WASSCE.
– Quality and relevance of the personal statement.
– Strength of letters of recommendation.
– Demonstrated financial need.
– Extracurricular involvement and commitment to sustainable development may be an added advantage.
Award Details:
– The Scholarship will cover full or partial tuition fees only.
– The Scholarship is renewable annually based on academic performance.
