UESD Embarks on Float to Commemorate 5th Anniversary Celebration

Members of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) community have embarked on a float on some principal streets of Somanya, as part of activities to mark its 5th anniversary celebrations.

This follows the launch of the anniversary in August which lined up activities covering the rest of the year including the float. The float, which started at 9:45 a.m. and ended around 12:41 p.m. took participants along Trom a Surburb of Somanya through, Agomenya, Sawer, roundabout to Atua and back to campus.

The colorful procession was participated by students, faculty, staff and management. Members of the Yilo Krobo Municipality also joined the procession to celebrate five years of perseverance, dedication, and remarkable progress. As they proceeded, they danced and chanted ‘jama’ as they distributed flyers of the more that 27 Undergraduate Programmes and the three Post Graduate Programmes to residents and well wishers.

Reflecting on the milestone in an interview, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko Sampson, described the five-years journey as a remarkable attainment. “Starting with only three staff members no students, and empty classrooms, to where we are today; with our first batch having graduated last year, a second batch preparing to graduate this November, and a current student population of more than one thousand 300, this is truly worth celebrating,” he said.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Wiafe Debrah, echoed similar sentiments. He expressed pride in the steady growth of the University and reaffirmed that UESD is indeed a “University for the future.” At the end of the float, the Registrar Mrs. Mary Abena Agyapong expressed appreciation to the participants for making the float colorful and eventful.
