BRIEF PROFILE:

Ms. Barbara Mary Yakubu is an Assistant Registrar and foundation Acting Head of University Relations at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya. She holds an MA in Public Affairs and a BA in Sociology and History, both from the University of Ghana, Legon, as well as a Diploma in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (UniMac). She is also a Chartered Administrator.
As a Media and Communications Professional, Ms. Yakubu plays key role in building, promoting, and protecting the University’s reputation through effective engagement with stakeholders and expanding the global reach of the UESD brand. She also oversees a team dedicated to building the right public image for UESD. She believes in teamwork and her vision is to lay the foundation to grow the URO into a Directorate.
Ms. Yakubu has more than two decades of experience in Broadcasting and Communications. She began her career as an Assistant Editor at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation Radio News Room in Accra, where she rose through the ranks to become Editor-In-Chief and a member of the Radio Newsroom Management. She has also worked as an Assistant Regional Correspondent for the Upper West Region. She consults on news writing/reporting, features, news presentation/anchoring, voice and radio training.
She is a member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC). She is also a foundation Executive of the UESD-Chapter of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
Barbara is a staunch Catholic and a lector in her church. She has a passion for cooking, enjoys scenic travel through the countryside, and finds relaxation in listening to music.
