The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Eastern Region, continues to take steps towards strengthening its international relations by paying a courtesy call on the Korean Ambassador to Ghana at his office in Accra. The visit, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, forms part of efforts to advance the University’s Internationalisation Agenda.
The meeting, held at the Conference Room of the Korean Embassy, was aimed at fostering a partnership between UESD and the Korean Embassy, with the long-term goal of establishing collaborations with Korean universities in the areas of joint research, exchange programmes, and staff mobility.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Eric Nyarko-Sampson formally introduced the University to His Excellency, Park Kwongsig, providing an overview of the University’s history, its unique location in the Eastern Region, vision and mission, academic structure, programmes offered, staff and student population, and existing partnerships. He also highlighted UESD’s core values and its current affiliation with Konyang Cyber University in Korea.

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson emphasised that the University is keen to establish linkages with Korean Universities in areas such as joint research projects, co-development of academic programmes, and student recruitment activities. He acknowledged Korea’s strength in human resource development, despite its limited natural resources, and expressed interest in tapping into Korea’s expertise and opportunities.
In response, H. E Kwongsig, expressed willingness to support UESD’s initiative by recommending suitable Korean institutions for potential collaboration. These include; The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) and The Korean Programme for International Cooperation in Agriculture (KOPIA).

The visit marks a promising start to what UESD hopes will be a fruitful and enduring partnership with Korean institutions, in alignment with the University’s vision of becoming a world-class centre of excellence in environment and sustainable development.
