UESD Matriculates First Cohort of Postgraduate Students

The University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) has formally admitted its first cohort of postgraduate students into the School of Sustainable Development and the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences.

At a solemn ceremony held in the Auditorium of the Multi-Purpose Building, 46 new students swore the Matriculation Oath and the UESD Honour Code, administered by the Registrar, Mrs. Mary Abena Agyepong. The event was attended by members of University Management, the Convocation, and the President of the Student Representative Council.

The new cohort includes three (3) pioneers from UESD’s own pool of undergraduates. The students are pursuing MPhil in Environmental Restoration Studies (16), MSc in Environmental Restoration Studies (19), and MPhil in Sustainable Aquaculture Biotechnology (11).

Mrs. Agyepong, in her welcome comments, explained that the ceremony was in compliance with Article 37 of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development Act, 2015 (Act 898) and Statute 102, which stipulate the requirement for matriculation and penalties for non-compliance. She encouraged the students to make the most of their time at the University, adding: “UESD is committed to nurturing your economic and professional growth, and we look forward to seeing your contributions toward our shared vision of environmental and sustainable development.” She also commended members of the planning committee for their efforts in delivering a successful ceremony.

Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, Vice-Chancellor (UESD)

In his Matriculation Address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, congratulated the students on their enrollment and stressed that what makes the UESD’s Matriculation unique is its emphasis on both honoring the institution’s regulations and instilling its core values of Honesty, Opportunity, Perseverance and Enterprising (HOPE). Prof. Nyarko-Sampson encouraged the students to be disciplined, remain focused, and to let their studies be anchored by the University’s core values as they become agents of transformation for their country, Africa, and the world.

Mr. Ezekiel Teye Nartey Adjorlolo, President (Graduate Students’ Association)

On behalf of his colleagues, the interim President of the Graduate Students’ Association, Mr. Ezekiel Teye Nartey Adjorlolo, described the ceremony as a momentous milestone. “Matriculation is not just a ceremony; it is a foundation-layer for future generations to reflect upon with admiration and respect.” Mr. Adjorlolo called on his colleagues to pursue knowledge as a tool for impact, to collaborate, embrace diversity, and collectively contribute toward defining a new narrative for Ghana, Africa, and the rest of the world.

The President of the Graduate Programme Management Committee, Prof. Alexander Nii Moi Pappoe presented the interim executive to the University’s leadership. The executives are: President, Mr. Ezekiel Teye Nartey Adjorlolo; Vice President, Mr. Mawuli Kwaku; Secretary; Mr. Bernard Akowuah; Financial Secretary, Mr. Obed Asamoah Nartey; Organising Secretary, Mr. Nelson Kwaku Nanor and Women’s Organiser, Miss Jessica Amu as Women’s Organiser. In attendance was the UESD choir.
